A Queen Elizabeth Wedding Theme

As a close to the wonderful Diamond Jubilee festivities of Queen Elizabeth II, we wanted to do a special tribute to her own wedding in the form of a wedding theme board.

The lovely queen was married at the tender age of 21 to her handsome, distant cousin, Prince Philip of Greece.  (He was her second cousin once removed through King Christian IX of Denmark and third cousins through Queen Victoria.)  They were married on November 20th, 1947 at Westminster Abbey.

He must have really loved him some Elizabeth because he converted from the Greek Orthodox Church to the Church of England (Anglican Church), also renounced his Greek-Danish ties, and even did not invite his sisters and other German family members for the sake of Britain’s position in World War II which was just two years removed and the effects of which were seen through war-torn Britain.

Queen Liz’s dress was designed by Norman Hartnell, the man who also designed her sister Margaret‘s wedding dress.  She had to use ration coupons to pay for it.  We give the queen two thumbs up for looking stunning on her special day, even on a budget!

We wish her and Prince Consort Philip many more years of marital bliss.  Long live the Queen!
